Abstract: As modern dredging equipment is becoming bigger in capacity, more advanced in technology and more sophisticated in operation, competition in the dredging industry has not only focused on the hardware capabilities, but also on the “soft” power, especially the skill level of dredging operators. This essay highlights the importance of sustainable improvement to dredging operator performance, and also describes the concept of a Dredging Operator Certification System (DOCS).
