Abstract: Hydraulic transport of coarse particles is often encountered in dredging engineering and plays an important role in the determination of production. In order to investigate the influence of big particles on slurry pump performance, coarse gravels with diameter of 4.0`32.0mm were used in the tests carried out at the 315kW-DN200mm slurry pump-pipeline stand at the dredging laboratory of Hohai University, China. The measured data and model analysis show that the coarse gravels have a great influence on pump performance. The models checked in this paper could give predictions of the lift drop roughly close to the measured data. With respect to the efficiency drop, however, one of the models underestimates the influence of the coarse gravels on the slurry pump efficiency and shaft power.
