Abstract: The concentration profile of sand across a pipeline’s cross-section has a close relationship to the transport mean velocity, flow resistance, etc. It is an important characteristic reflecting the two-phase flow state in the pipeline. Focusing on the frequent fine sand transport, a measuring technique using a radioactive density meter is briefly introduced and the application of the traditional diffusion theory in the circular pipeline is discussed. By using a method dealing with a rectangular pipeline as a reference, a formula to calculate the concentration profile in a circular pipeline is proposed. The result shows that the calculation agrees well with that measured.
