Abstract: During dredging construction with a grab dredger, it is difficult to conduct a full excavation to design elevation at one time due to discontinuous dredging and there are many high points which will have to be specially cleared in post construction period. The field analysis on the dredging construction site with high points shows that the surface of the construction site is uneven and there is a big difference of elevation between measuring points and high points are in a scattered distribution. Based on a deep analysis on the causes, a large number of high points and poor performance of clearing are mainly due to the discontinuous excavation caused by the limitation of the grab dredger. In this text, application and effect of different types of clearing processes are compared. The traditional process of point after point clearing with overexcavation and a large amount of transportation to the outside is changed and the heavy-duty grab dredger is modified to remove the high and fill the low spots through side thrusting by the dead load of the grab. This clearing process is environmentally friendly, convenient, highly effective and low-cost. It can be extensively applied in the dredging construction with the grab dredger.
