Abstract: After 2007, the Yangtze estuary deepwater channel regulation project produced dredged material totalling 60 million m3 each year. At present, it is a wasted valuable resource and the dredged material is still subject to mainly outside disposal. In order to increase the comprehensive utilization rate of the Yangtze River estuary dredged material, this article presents how dredged material should be treated with a Hydrocyclone to reduce level of fine sludge in the dredged material and should be used for sand-filled bags. According to the characteristics of Yangtze River estuary dredged material, the author designs two kinds of specifications for a hydrocyclone and optimizes their structure with numerical simulation methods. Experimental results show Yangtze River estuary dredged material treated by a hydrocyclone meets the requirements for sand-filled bags. The separation efficiency of >0.075mm particles is over 90% , and sand concentration of the underflow is more than 50%, and sludge concentration of underflow reduces to below 5%.
