Abstract: Many sediments have to be disposed of at high costs. In order to reduce these costs it is crucial to minimize the mass of the sediments by combining separation of reusable fractions (sand) and dewatering of the fines. Soil washing technology can relatively easy be adapted to offer this solution, and is being applied on a number of large fixed sediment treatment centres, but also on several mobile projects. This paper will outline the advantages of soil washing technology in sediment treatment, and some case studies will illustrate this topic.
