Abstract: The “Standard for Geologic Investigation of Waterway Engineering” is the first one for geologic investigations for waterway engineering issued by China. As a compulsory sector standard, it went into effect from 1 September, 2010. One of main parts in this standard is section on the capital dredging engineering geologic investigation for waterways. Principal provisions in the capital dredging engineering geologic investigation application conditions for in-situ testing methods, classification and grading for underwater dredging and geotechnical construction are systematically described in this paper in an all-round way.

These provisions include the dividing of the investigation stages; provisions in engineering geological investigation during the feasibility study, conceptual design and construction drawing design stages. In-situ testing methods include the loading, static cone penetration, taper dynamical penetration tests of light-duty, heavy duty and extra-heavy types, standard penetration, vane shear and lateral loading tests. The classification and grading of underwater dredging and geotechnical construction are divided into sections relating to organic soil and vegetation, muddy soil, clay soil, silty soil, sandy soil, gravel soil and rock types.

Moreover, some main peculiarities in the provisions are presented, such as the simplification of investigation stages and the status of engineering geological investigation.
