Abstract: The flow in dredge pump is complicated, 3-dimentional and unsteady. Since the density difference between sediment particle and liquid carrier, solid particles will deviate from the surrounding flow with different motion directions and velocity due to the inertia effect. So deviation of particles will lead to changes in the dredge pump’s hydraulic performance, efficiency and durability. In this paper, authors simulate and analyze motion trajectories of various sized sediment particles in a dredge pump based on sliding meshes and Lagrange method, and predict the wear region and wear intensity on impeller and casing according to an erosion model. The calculated result is consistent with wear appearances in dredge pumps in practical engineering applications.
