Abstract: The cutter suction dredger (CSD) is a key type dredger in dredging operations, but its performance varies case by case. Many factors affect the production efficiency - such as soil conditions, wave conditions, and operation methods. These can be very complex and changeful. Even with the same operating conditions, the deviation of production can reach about 10% with different operators. To optimize the operating methods and improve the production efficiency, it is necessary and challenging to analyse the parameters in certain working conditions and study and stipulate the dredging operation standard. In cooperation with colleges and universities, the Tianjin Dredging Company (TDC), through a 3-year-long exploration, numerous attempts as well as the constant promotion of this application, bringing the industrial engineering theory into this industry for the first time. This theory, combines with the concept of lean construction and scientific analysis in the dredging process. Also, with the data, which is from the Decision-Making-Aid System, analysed by the ECRS method, a standard operating system for CSD is established based on this preceding theory. The 3-year-long practice witnesses the there is a well-accepted, promotion and application of this system In this paper, the standard operating system and classification for CSDs and other types of dredgers is also discussed.
