Abstract
Driven by legislation of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), increasing tender requirements with regard to emission of greenhouse gases (GHG) and dredging contractor's own sustainability goals, decarbonization is a central theme for the dredging community. While a lot of attention and effort is spend on use of alternative fuels, optimizing the power plant on board can also provide significant opportunities for reduction of emissions. In terms of dredging works: reaching the same production rate with lesser fuel, results in less emissions per ton dredged material.
