Abstract
"From April, 2016 until October 2018, Toyo Construction Co., Ltd conducted a large dredging project in the navigation channel in the Port of Lach Huyen, an International Container Terminal which is located in the north side of Vietnam. The Lach Huyen Channel has a total length of 17km and Toyo Construction Co., Ltd. worked along a 7km length upstream of the channel. The main objective of the project was to respond to increasing maritime freight flows and larger cargo vessels. For this purpose, dredging was conducted in a 7 km navigation channel to expand from a 100m existing channel width to 160m and to dredge the existing channel deeper from -7m to -14m. Also included was the construction of a turning basin area in front of a container berth with the diameter of 660m. The project has features that included various soil types where the upper layer had soft clay and lower layer had hard sticky clay. The sedimentation in the dredging area is estimated to total 1,800,000m^3 over three years. During construction the existing navigation channel was used simultaneously and a channel diversion was conducted twice in order to dredge all the existing channel area by a Grab dredger."
