Abstract
"(Article in Chinese only) - In dredging projects, water jets are often used in excavation. However, limited researches touched the process of soil erosion by water jets, restricting the utilization of water jets in dredging. Numerical simulation is effective in studying and analyzing the detailed process of soil erosion by water jets. The eroded characteristics due to water jets for two typical dredged soil, i.e. sand and clay are analyzed in this paper. Flow-3D software and the Arbitrary Lagrange-Euler (ALE) method are adopted in this study. Erosion process of sand and clay by water jets are simulated respectively. Results reveal that Flow-3D can accurately simulate the souring behavior of sand under the impact of water jets. While for scouring of clay, ALE method can solve the problem of large deformation of the grid at the erosion surface. In general, this study can provide valuable reference for appropriate selection of numerical models and calculation method as for dredged soil erosion by water jets."
