This year's topic for the John Sargent Lecture is:

Developing a World-Leading Carbon Capture and Storage Sector in the UK
Presented by:
Denise Moylan – CCS & Hydrogen Director, The Crown Estate

Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS), described by the Climate Change Committee (CCC) as “a necessity, not an option” for reaching the UK’s net zero ambitions, is vital for cutting emissions from heavy industries like cement and steel sectors, where low-carbon alternatives simply don’t yet exist.

The UK is uniquely positioned to lead this transformation. With one of the largest CO₂ storage potentials in Europe, a thriving CCS sector could unlock major economic benefits — from high-value jobs in industrial heartlands to new opportunities for UK businesses throughout the CCS supply chain. Done right, it positions the UK as a global leader in a technology the world urgently needs, exporting skills, expertise, and innovation.

Join us to explore this evolving sector, understand how the UK is moving from ambition to delivery, and see how The Crown Estate is helping accelerate deployment — enabling growth, investment, and a more resilient, decarbonised future for the nation.
