UK Section
Established in 1983, the UK Section of CEDA is an associated society of the Institution of Civil Engineers.
Executive Committee
The executive direction of the CEDA UK Section resides in an elected committee. The committee currently consists of 12 elected members and 6 co-opted members. Follow the link CEDA-UK Executive Committee to see the member list.
Seminars and Site Visits
The UK Section regularly organises technical evening programmes and site visits. These are excellent opportunities to meet peers, exchange knowledge and get the latest information in an informal and friendly atmosphere. The seminars are primarily held in the ICE headquarters in London, but are also undertaken annually around the United Kingdom. Site visits are also organised to significant or unique projects when possible. Links to past events and presentations are available on the right hand side of this page. (Presentations are only available to CEDA members - please log in to access these, or click here to become a member).
Outstanding Contribution Award
The committee invites applications each year for their annual award. The award recognises individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the UK dredging industry; for example, by years of service, promotion of the industry or contribution towards inspiring, informing or founding best practices and innovation in the industry. Previous recipients of this award can be viewed here.
UK Legislation
The UK section of CEDA plays an active role in the development of relevant UK legislation. Recent examples include:
- CEDA UK’s involvement in the development of the new navigation dredging licensing regime that was introduced in April 2014. CEDA has provided advice through representation at the stakeholder events. CEDA members were also involved as part of the project team working with government to implement the new regime.
- In the UK, CEDA is the chair of the UK Water Framework Directive/Marine Strategy Framework Directive Navigation Sector Group (secretariat provided by PIANC). It provides a forum for the navigation industry and government to liaise over legislative progress.
- CEDA-UK is also currently hosting the CEDA Liaison Group which is using information from case studies of the use of dredged material to inform evidence-based decision-making by regulators. Key UK regulators and stakeholders are represented on this group.
- CEDA-UK also participates in discussions with Defra on inland dredging.
