CEDA Conference in Lisbon: A Guarantee for Useful Lessons and Lively Interactions

An invitation by the Conference Chair, Professor Stefan Aarninkhof

Headshot - Stefan Aarninkhof On behalf of the Central Dredging Association CEDA, and co-organiser, the Portuguese Engineers Association, OE, I warmly invite you to attend the CEDA Iberian Conference titled ‘Dredging for Sustainable Port Development’. Spanish and Portuguese professionals in the field of dredging and port construction have initiated this event, inspired by increasing environmental and societal demands on the preparation and implementation of marine infrastructure projects. CEDA was delighted to accept the invitation to organize this unique gathering.

The conference will address key topics relevant to the success of port dredging and sediment management projects, with a focus on the Iberian peninsula. It offers a platform to discuss best practises for environmental engineering and management across the globe, in the context of real-world Iberian projects. The program also foresees in presentations the potential of modern-day nature-based approaches such as Building with Nature and Working with Nature, and their applicability in Iberian practice. With high-profile speakers from nine different countries, we are confident the conference truly reflects current thinking on the implementation and realization of sustainability ambitions in the field of port development. For the detailed programme please see the brochure below.

Speakers and attendees represent a broad variety of backgrounds, including research institutes, consultancies, marine contractors, port authorities, government agencies and NGO’s. In other words: a guarantee for lively interactions. This will be further promoted during the technical visit to Costa de Caparica, to be hosted by the Portuguese Environment Agency. Port of Lisbon Authority has worked together closely with the Agency here to devise a dredging plan that uses dredged sediments from maintenance dredging to successfully mitigate erosion problems on the beaches of Caparica. To promote lively interaction on issues related to sustainable port development, attendees will be challenged to take pictures of sights and scenes that relate to the theme of the conference. A jury consisting of members of Young CEDA will identify the most appealing pictures of this Sustainable Port Photo Contest and the stories behind.

CEDA and OE are able to offer this conference at a very attractive registration fee, thanks to the generous support of our sponsors, Boskalis, Damen, Dravosa, Dredging International, Etermar, Hahlbrock Marine Technologie,  IHC, Port of Aveiro, Port of Lisbon, Rohde Nielsen, Seth, and WW - Consultores de Hidráulica e Obras Marítimas, S.A.

All in all this is an event not to be missed, and I look forward to welcoming you in Lisbon at the CEDA Iberian Conference.
