DREDGING DAYS 2005
Dredging: The Extremes

TECHNICAL VISIT WEDNESDAY 2 NOVEMBER 2005, 13:00 HRS - 16:45 HRS

On Wednesday afternoon, here will be an opportunity to visit "the Slufter". The Slufter, with a volume of 150 million m3 metres is probably the largest Confined Disposal Facility for dredged material in the world. It is located in the Maasvlakte industrial area of the Port of Rotterdam. In addition to the storage of contaminated dredged material, there are also facilities for sand extraction and the ripening of dredged material for beneficial use. Participants will receive detailed information about the various aspects of the l facilities and will make a round trip on the dike.

The drive to the Slufter takes about three quarters of an hour. During the ride interesting features of the Rotterdam industrial area can be seen and these will be explained. Buses will depart from Ahoy' Rotterdam (car park in front of the main entrance) at 13:00 hrs. The programme at the Slufter will be followed by a guided tour through the Port of Rotterdam by ship. Light refreshments will be served on board. The estimated time of return at the Spido Pontoon near the Erasmusbridge in the centre of the city is around 16:45 hrs. If you wish you can return to Ahoy by Metro. The Europort Maritime exhibition is open until 22:00 hrs.
